There is an illusion in both Nepal and India that if Nepalis are not allowed to work in India, Nepal's economic situation will deteriorate and Nepal will lose a large share of remittances. But this thinking has been confirmed to be untrue. About 1 million Indians work in Nepal, while there are an estimated 4 million Nepalis in India. Although the number of Nepali workers is higher, the income of Indian workers is higher. The amount that Indians earn in Nepal and send to India is much more than the amount that Nepalis earn in India and send to Nepal. By calculation, an Indian earns more than four times what an Nepali earns in India.
