#ArchEnemy #BlackEarth #SwedishDeathMetal ARCH ENEMY is a Swedish death metal band, originally a supergroup from Halmstad, formed in 1995. Its members were in bands such as CARCASS, ARMAGEDDON, CARNAGE, MERCYFUL FATE, SPIRITUAL BEGGARS, THE AGONIST, NEVERMORE, and EUCHARIST. It was founded by CARCASS guitarist Michael Amott along with Johan Liiva, who were both originally from the death meta band CARNAGE. The band was originally fronted by Johan Liiva, who was replaced by German vocalist Angela Gossow in 2000. Gossow left the band in March 2014 to become the group's manager and was replaced by Canadian vocalist Alissa White-Gluz. ARCH ENEMY, the brainchild of Michael Amott (CARCASS, CARNAGE, and SPIRITUAL BEGGARS), was originally assembled when Amott left CARCASS. He and his younger brother Christopher (ARMAGEDDON) joined with vocalist Johan Liiva (ex-CARNAGE, FURBOWL, DEVOURMENT) and session drummer Daniel Erlandsson (EUCHARIST) In November 2000, Johan Liiva was replaced by Angela Gossow. The first album featuring Gossow was Wages of Sin, released in 2001. This is also the first album where the band used C tuning, which they have kept until the present. That same year, ARCH ENEMY took part in the "Japan's Beast Feast 2002" concert, playing alongside SLAYER and MOTÖRHEAD. BLACK EARTH is their debut studio album recorded in Studio Fredman and released by the now defunct Wrong Again Records and Toy's Factory (Japan) in 1996. It is a common misconception that Johan Liiva played bass on the album. Tt was in fact played by Michael Amott, who gave the credit to Liiva to make the album seem more like a band effort than a side-project (which is what ARCH ENEMY essentially was at the time) Michael Amott, Christopher Amott, Johan Liiva, Daniel Erlandsson, and Sharlee D'Angelo reunited in 2016 under the moniker of BLACK EARTH for a sold-out Japan tour in May 2016 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of both ARCH ENEMY and the release of their debut album, BLACK EARTH. On this tour, they only performed songs from the band's first 3 albums BLACK EARTH, STIGMATA, and BURNING BRIDGES, which was released in October 2017 as a CD/DVD package by Savage Messiah Music entitled "20 Years of Dark Insanity: Japan Tour 2016".
