"I read chapter two of the Quran and I realised I'm home, and that I've been a Muslim all my life." Irish pop singer Sinead O'Connor, who converted to Islam in 2018, died on Wednesday aged 56. She shot to fame after releasing her 1990 single 'Nothing Compares 2 U' and continued to release a total of 10 albums in her lifetime. O'Connor changed the image of women in music in the early 1990s, shaving her head in response to industry pressure to look glamorous and openly speaking up about her mental health struggles. She was known for her activism as well as her music. In 1992, O'Connor famously tore up a photo of the pope during a performance, protesting against child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church. She was also known to be a strong supporter of the Palestinian cause and raised the Palestinian flag at her concerts.
